May 27, 1986 Attack on the Faruqi home Ismail and Lois killed; daughter Anmar el-Zein survives multiple stab wounds.[2]
May 28, 1986 FBI joins investigation News of the murder reported in major U.S. outlets.[3]
May 30, 1986 Funeral prayers at Masjid Muhammad Over 4,000 mourners, including dignitaries, attend.[4]
July 30, 1986 UPI reports vendetta speculation Motive theories begin to circulate in the media.[5]

January 17, 1987 Joseph Louis Young arrested Identified through fingerprint match on glove at crime scene.[7]
July 10, 1987 Young found guilty Convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and other charges.[8]

1990 Pennsylvania Supreme Court remands case Original sentencing overturned; resentencing ordered.[10]
1993 Death sentence reaffirmed Jury again returns death sentence following resentencing.[11]
March 1996 Young dies in prison Dies of natural causes before execution.[12]
